About you

We’re looking for a Software Engineer, Backend to join one of our cross-functional product development teams and contribute to the delivery of Fieldscale’s software. If you are passionate about software engineering and love building services and APIs, then we will love to talk with you!

This is an exciting role where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists and engineers with a diverse background from around the world. Over 90% of Fieldscale’s team consists of Engineers with an MSc or a Ph.D. in electrical, mechanical, software and computer engineering.

As a Backend Software Engineer at Fieldscale, you will be primarily responsible for:

  • Collaborate with product owners, software engineers, and QA engineers to deliver reusable functionality for product features.
  • Own the implementation of the various microservices.
  • Develop workflows and functionality for Fieldscale's products.
  • Support the integration of the frontend with the backend.
  • Build efficient, robust and scalable services and software abstractions.
  • Advocate best practices for software architecture.
  • Participate in architecture design and code reviews.
  • Being accountable for your code's quality.

You must have the following:

  • 2+ years experience in a relevant software engineering role.
  • Demonstrated experience in Python using Object-Oriented Programming.
  • Experience with developing REST APIs.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Good understanding of modern software architecture styles (e.g. Microservices).
  • Experience with the standard software engineering practices for the full software development cycle.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Strive for continuous improvement, instead of perfection.
  • Self-starter and willing to learn.

You get a strong plus if you have one or more of the following

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience with developing SaaS applications.
  • Experience with Django REST framework.
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks like pytest.
  • Familiar with Amazon Web Services.
  • Familiar with Terraform.
  • Understanding of agile development methods (Scrum or Kanban).
